The Moft Dynamic Folio Case does tricks other iPad case/stand combinations can’t. Most notably, it can lift the iPad up several inches, making the screen easier to see.
Beyond that, the accessory can be folded into shapes that support the tablet at a range of angles. It can even hold your iPhone next to your iPad. It’s very flexible, and it protects the tablet, too.
I’ve been using Moft’s latest for several weeks. That’s a lot to like here.

There’s nothing new about an iPad case that folds into a stand. It’s just such a good idea — Apple doesn’t build a kickstand into its tablet, so having the case take on this role makes loads of sense.
The range of options varies quite a bit. The simplest is probably Apple’s own Smart Folio. The front flap for this folds into a triangle shape that supports the iPad from the back.
The Moft Dynamic Folio Case is the most elaborate case/stand combination I know of. It’s ready to help you watch video, type on the iPad touchscreen, draw on the screen, use an external keyboard and more.

Lightweight iPad folio case

The iPad clips securely into this wraparound folio. All four corners of the computer are protected, and the front and back of the tablet are shielded from scratches.
You can expect the Moft Dynamic Folio Case to defend your precious iPad from bumps and blows, but not from drops from any significant height. Or liquids, as the sides are almost completely open.
The exterior is either jet black or misty cove in color. My review unit is black, and it looks … fine. It’s plasticky, though.
I won’t put up with a bulky case, so I appreciate that my review unit weighs 0.9 pounds and measures under 0.4 inches thick.
I still tend to take the case off when I’m holding up my iPad — I really don’t like any extra weight — so one of my favorite features of the Moft Dynamic Folio Case is that it’s very easy to remove.
Moft makes versions for a wide array of models. I’m testing the one for the 13-inch iPad Pro, or you can get it for the 11-inch iPad Pro, the iPad Air in both sizes or the iPad mini.

In a standard iPad case/stand, the front cover flips around to the back to become a kickstand. But Moft’s offering uses tricks picked up from origami to give you a range of stand options.
The flipcover includes a number of fold lines and magnets. This lets me configure the accessory so that my iPad is held up about 3 inches off my desk and leaning backward about 40 degrees. That’s quite a good arrangement for using the tablet with an external keyboard. (See here)
Fold the Moft Dynamic Folio Case another way and my iPad is still 3 inches above my desk but this time the screen is held straight up and down. That’s just what I want to lean back and watch video.

Another trick involves folding the stand so that the tablet is held up off the desk at a comfortable angle and height to draw on it with an Apple Pencil, or use the on-screen keyboard.
These three options to hold an iPad up off a desk are standout features of the Moft Dynamic Folio Case. You won’t find many rivals that can do the same. They are why I’ve continued to use this product even after I felt I’d fully tested it for this review.
But those aren’t the only options. I can configure the case so it’s leaning backward 50 degrees, and part of the iPad stand becomes a shelf to hold my iPhone.

And of course the case has the option to hold the tablet with it sitting on my desk and leaning backward slightly. That said, the kickstand in this arrangement is 6-inches thick so it doesn’t fit well into tight spaces, like an airplane tray table.
Moft Dynamic Folio Case review: Final thoughts
Moft’s iPad case/stand combination is a standout — and stand-up — option for anyone who uses their iPad with an external keyboard or an Apple Pencil while on the go. And its cinema mode is excellent, too.
But if all you want is a basic iPad case that flips around to become a stand, this is probably more than you need.
